Feature Artist: April

~Happy Tuesday all,
~This week I have the uber talented April with me for a fabby interview, April designs for the likes of Scrap Tiffany and The Pink Ninjas:
My name is April Hummert and I'm from Dallas, Texas. I'm a former family law attorney turned stay at home super mommy and full time domestic diva. I've been scrapping for almost ten years, but I really fell in love with it about 3.5 years ago when my son, Skylar, was born! I currently design for several online scrap stores, challenge sites, and inspiration blogs and I also design for and teach at my LSS, Anthologies.

Who is your biggest inspiration???
My biggest inspiration was Bad Girls Kit Club. A few years ago, all of the Lass in my area closed. I was so sad and missed being able to buy the latest and greatest in scrap goodies, so I joined several kit clubs, including Bad Girls. The closings turned out to be a blessing in disguise because I learned so much and grew as an artist with Bad Girls. I feel like I stopped "old school" scrapping and blossomed into an artist who chooses scrap booking as my medium. I learned to slow down, enjoy the process, and appreciate the creative release rather than just trying to finish a page.
I'm so sad that they are no longer around.

Why did you start creating?
I initially started scrapping in order to keep my pictures organized and to have a place to journal along with the pictures, but now scrapbooking is so much more to me than that. Scrapping is my creative outlet, my artistic release...it keeps me happy and motivated!
What is your favourite thing to create?
Mini books (which I call mega books because they always turn out huge and chunky) and 12x12 LOs

What are your favourite manufacturers?
Webster's Pages, Graphic 45, Prima, and October Afternoon

You do a lot of DT work, which is your favourite to design for?
Wow, that's a really hard question! I currently design for Scrap Tiffany (a scrapboking inspiration blog), The Pink Ninjas (a scrapbook inspiration blog), XOXO Girls (a challenge blog), Scrapbook Heaven (an online kit club), and Anthologies (my LSS, where I teach).
The inspiration blogs are so fun because I have a lot of freedom to interpret the challenge any way I want and really be creative...it's fun to post those creations on my blog and share them with everyone. The kit club is fun because I love seeing the kit in advance and the challenge of designing projects using only what's in the kit. Working at my LSS is fabulous because I love being able to show my work to people in real life and make friends through teaching.

Do you create with music? If so what is your favourite creative song?
I always have my Ipod going while I'm in my scrap room. Right now I really love listening to all of the tracks by the Glee cast. I'm also a HUGE Green Day fan (I'll always be in love with Tre Cool). I can't get enough of the soundtracks of Into the Woods, Aida (the Elton John musical version), and Wicked.
What are your 3 must-have creative items?
Only 3??? My pink ATG, vintage findings (love to search flea markets for old books, trims, buttons, fabric, miniatures), and patterned paper...I'm all about the patterned paper.

Have you ever created anything you've hated?
Absolutely. Sometimes I'll be under the pressure of a deadline, but won't feel inspired. If I'm not feeling inspired, I usually don't like what I create!

~April is also doing a fabby giveaway over on her blog, in honour of this giveaway:

To celebrate this interview, I am having a fabulous giveaway on my blog, www.scrappingskylar.blogspot.com. ~love, Vicki
